Spatial Companions studies how spatially anchored guidance can support people through unfamiliar, hands-on procedures in workshops and labs.

Research Question

Can spatially situated cues reduce cognitive load during complex physical tasks better than screen-based instructions?

Process

Task analysis with practitioners informed a set of interaction patterns for anchoring, sequencing and confirming steps in space.

Experimentation

We built XR prototypes and ran comparative studies against traditional instruction formats, measuring completion and error rates.

Outcome

Evidence that spatial anchoring improves confidence and reduces errors, with a reusable pattern library for spatial guidance.
